Laser Analgesia

چکیده

An erbium:YAG laser can be used to achieve an effect termed “laser analgesia”. This is based on the concept that "simultaneous low level laser therapy" (LLLT) may occur along with high level laser treatment, as outlined by by Ohshiro and Calderhead. Laser analgesia is a non-destructive, non-thermal bio-modulation of dental pulp responses. It is not profound anaesthesia (the lack of all sensation), as gained with an injection of local anaesthetic solution.

Evaluation of Low Level Laser Effects on Epidural Anestesia in Horse

Abstract Objective: To evaluate and compare the analgesic effects of caudal epidural administration of lidocaine (LIDO), caudal laser radiation and epidural lidocaine plus laser radiation in horses. Study design: A blinded, randomized, prospective, experimental cross-over study. Animals: Five healthy horses, 15.7 +/- 4.9 years of age, weighing 240 +/- 37 kg. Methods: The...

Effect of adjunctive low level laser therapy on gingival graft: A Review of the Literature

Introduction: Mucogingival surgery is performed to correct defects in the morphology, position, and/or amount of gingiva. Such post-operative complications as bleeding, swelling, and pain have often been documented after mucogingival surgery and are associated with discomfort after surgery. The low-intensity laser has been used to promote analgesia. Low level laser therapy (LLLT) not only accel...

Touch inhibits subcortical and cortical nociceptive responses

The neural mechanisms of the powerful analgesia induced by touching a painful body part are controversial. A long tradition of neurophysiologic studies in anaesthetized spinal animals indicate that touch can gate nociceptive input at spinal level. In contrast, recent studies in awake humans have suggested that supraspinal mechanisms can be sufficient to drive touch-induced analgesia. To investi...

Laser Acupuncture for Postoperative Pain Management in Cats

UNLABELLED The aim of this study was to evaluate laser acupuncture as an adjuvant for postoperative pain management in cats. Twenty cats, undergoing ovariohysterectomy, were sedated with intramuscular (IM) ketamine (5 mg kg(-1)), midazolam (0.5 mg kg(-1)), and tramadol (2 mg kg(-1)). Prior to induction of anaesthesia, the subjects were randomly distributed into two groups of 10 cats: Laser: bil...

Influence of naloxone and methysergide on the analgesic effects of low-level laser in an experimental pain model.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Although the mechanism of action of laser phototherapy (LPT) is not known, it is a promising analgesic method. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the action of LPT depends on the activation of peripheral opioid or serotonergic receptors. METHOD Inflammatory pain was induced through the injection of carrageenin in the left posterior paw of male Wistar rats....
